The Betrayal, Chapter 4

Ratty stood on his suite's balcony, surveying the city below. Taala lay on the bed, eyes closed, listening to the city. She heard carriages rolling by, people chattering on the streets, and the occasional shout of a vendor hawking their wares.

Ratty turned to her, his whiskers twitching. "I's smells something in the air. Something's not rights."

Taala opened her eyes and sat up, her long hair falling over her shoulders. "What is it? What do you smell?"

Ratty sniffed the air again, his nose wrinkling. "I's not sures. It's likes a storm is coming, but not a normal storms. Something... darkers."

Taala stood up and walked over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "We'll be ready for it, whatever it is. We always are."

Ratty nodded, his eyes scanning the horizon. "I's hopes you're rights. I's don't likes the feels of this."

As they stood there, a knock came at the door. Ratty's ears perked up, and he motioned for Taala to answer it. She opened the door to reveal a well-dressed man with a smarmy smile.

"Ah, Mr. Ratonga, so good to see you," the man said, stepping into the room without waiting for an invitation. "I trust your stay has been pleasant so far?"

Ratty's eyes narrowed as his hand reached for the dagger hidden in his boot. "Who's you's? What's you's wants?"

The man chuckled, waving a dismissive hand. "No need for threats, my friend. I'm simply here to make sure everything is to your liking. And to deliver a message."

He pulled out a small envelope from his coat pocket and handed it to Ratty. The ratonga took it, his eyes never leaving the man's face. He opened the envelope and read the note inside, his expression darkening.

"What's this?" he growled, his grip tightening on the paper. "Who's this from?"

The man smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Let's just say it's from someone who shares your interests. Someone who would like to discuss a potential partnership."

Ratty crumpled the note in his fist, his teeth bared. "I's don't likes games. Tells me who's you's working for, or I's will makes you regrets it."

The man stepped back. "I assure you, my clients are one of the most powerful and influential pirate groups in the world! They have deep pockets and can offer you many opportunities."

Ratty snorted. "I's don't cares about opportunities. I's cares about results. Tell your clients that if they wants to works with me, they needs to shows me what they's gots."

The man nodded, his smile never wavering. "Of course. I'll relay your message. In the meantime, please enjoy your stay. And if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask." With that, he turned and left the room, closing the door behind him.

Taala looked at Ratty, her brow furrowed. "What was that about? What did the note say?"

Ratty handed her the crumpled paper. "It's an invitations. To a meetings. With the leaders of the Crimson Blades and the Ashen Order."

Taala's eyes widened. "The Ashen Order? They're a powerful group. What do they want with us?"

Ratty shrugged. "Who knows? But if they's wants to meet, we's will meets. And we's will finds out what they's really afters."

Taala nodded, her expression serious. "We need to be careful. If this is a trap..."

Ratty cut her off with a wave of his hand. "Shh! Someone's is closes. Justs arrives. Theys listening and watchings us. Sees how we reacts. Acts likes this goods news."

"Oh, darling!" Taala, kissed Ratty, much to his surprise. "This is such good news! Now your drugs shall go all over the world!" She felt disgusted saying the words but did so for the sake of the charade. The hidden watchers would likely report back this was good news for the Ratonga, as would be expected.

Ratty blinked and returned the kiss, his tail twitching. "Yes! Theys will loves my drugs! Loves it! Now, let's celebrates! Orders the rooms services!"

"I have a better idea," Taala smiled as she dropped her dress, her bra and panties remaining, athletic, and large-breasted tanned body on full display. "We shall make love!"

Ratty stared in horror. Taala was their newest teammate, a paladin of Druzzil Ro, and here she was...nearly naked?

How could he square this as Blaquetail, his real identity, and face her tomorrow? He started to sweat as she stepped closer.

"Come on, Mr. Bigshot Drug Dealer," she smiled. "Show me what you got."

She picked him up; he was half her height, and she carried him into the bedroom. "Do they have eyes in here?" She whispered.

"Theys soons wills," Ratty blushed. "I's...don't knows what to do."

"Just follow my lead," Taala sighed. "Pretend I am a very expensive whore you rented as your wife."

"Oh, I's don't rents those," Ratty nodded. "Me's usually stays homes on weekends."

Taala started to move her hips against his body, as she bounced him up and down, faking sounds of pleasure. Ratty tried to go along, but he was still in shock. After a few moments, Taala stopped and looked at him.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her brow furrowed.

Ratty nodded. "Y-yes. I's just not used to this kind of thing. I's usually more of a loners."

Taala chuckled. "Well, we need to sell this. So, let's make it look good."

She resumed her movements, and Ratty tried his best to play along, his mind racing. He couldn't believe this was happening. He was a respected assassin, not some lovesick fool. But he had to admit, Taala was quite beautiful, and her body felt amazing against his.

As they continued their charade, Ratty couldn't help but feel a strange sense of excitement. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. She pulled him on top of her, his long snout trapped between her breasts.

"They still watching?" Taala whispered. "I can feel them, but I can't see them."

Ratty closed his eyes, "Yes, they is. I's feel it too. Thinks they's enjoyings this?"

Taala smiled. "Good. Let's give them a show they won't forget." She rolled over, placing herself on top of him, her breasts swaying as she moved. Ratty couldn't help but stare, his mind going blank as he lost himself in the moment.

As their fake lovemaking continued, a strange sense of peace washed over Ratty. He had never felt this way before, and he wasn't sure what to make of it. But he knew one thing for certain: he was glad Taala was on his side.

She blushed as she rolled him onto her and whispered, "That better be your tail."

Ratty blushed. "Nos." His small frame didn't hide much.

Taala giggled, whispering, "You are a very lucky tonga."

He blinked and stared at her as she started to blush. "Uh, thanks?"

She giggled and kept moving, adding some extra sound effects. "So, how long do we need to keep this up?"

"Yous keeps me ups, that is for sures." Ratty shrugged, his mind still reeling from the sensations. "I's not sures. Until they's believes us, I's guesses."

Taala nodded, her movements becoming more urgent. "Well, let's make it convincing then."

As they continued their performance, Ratty couldn't help but feel a growing sense of admiration for Taala. She was brave, resourceful, and incredibly sexy. He wanted to impress her, to show her he was just as capable as she was. And as their fake lovemaking reached its climax, Ratty couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. They had sold their charade, and they had done it together.

Lying there, panting and sweating, Taala turned to him and smiled. "Not bad for a rat, huh?"

Ratty grinned, his whiskers twitching. "Not bad at alls. Maybe we's should do this more often."

Taala laughed, swatting at him playfully. "Don't get any ideas, mister Blaquetail. This was strictly business."

Ratty nodded, his expression serious once more. "Yis. Of course. Business."

She looked down at the the sheets. "I am so sorry about that. This is so embarrassing."

Ratty shrugged. "It's naturals. Don't worries about it."

Taala smiled, her eyes sparkling. "You're a good guy, you know that? Even if you are a sneaky assassin."

Ratty chuckled. "And you's a good whore, even if you's a paladins."

She punched his arm. "Hey!"

He laughed, rubbing his arm. "I's just kidding. You's amazings, Taala. Truly."

She blushed, looking away. "Thanks, Ratty. You're not so bad yourself."

Dragskarr waited in the beachside bar, his large frame hunched over a drink. The bartender, a burly half-orc with a scarred face, eyed him warily. "What'll it be, big guy?" he grunted, wiping down the counter.

Dragskarr's amber eyes narrowed, his voice a low rumble. "Something strong. And keep them coming."

The bartender nodded and poured a dark, viscous liquid into a glass. Dragskarr downed it in one gulp and slammed the glass back onto the counter. The half-orc refilled it without a word.

As Dragskarr sat there, his mind wandered. He thought about his past, the wrongs he had suffered, and the path that had led him here. He also thought about his teammates and the strange bond they shared. Despite their differences, they had become a family of sorts, and he would do anything to protect them.

A commotion at the other end of the bar interrupted his thoughts. A group of rough-looking men had gathered around a smaller figure, their voices raised in anger.

"Hey, little man, you think you can just walk in here and start throwing your weight around?" one of the men sneered, grabbing the smaller man by the collar.

The smaller man, a halfling with a quick tongue and quicker hands, grinned up at his assailant. "I'm just here for a drink, fellas. No need to get your feathers ruffled."

Another man, a hulking human with a bald head and a thick neck, stepped forward. "We don't like your kind around here. You're not welcome. We think halflings are stupid, and half-wits!"

Dragskarr watched the scene unfold, his anger simmering just below the surface. He knew he should stay out of it, that it wasn't his fight. But something about the way the halfling stood his ground, unafraid and defiant, reminded him of himself.

With a growl, Dragskarr pushed himself away from the bar and stalked over to the group. "Is there a problem here?" he rumbled, his eyes fixed on the bald man.

The bald man turned to face him, a sneer on his lips. "Yeah, there's a problem. This little shit thinks he can just waltz in here and act like he owns the place."

Dragskarr's eyes flicked to the halfling, who gave him a grateful nod. Turning back to the bald man, Dragskarr said, "Well, he's with me. And I don't appreciate you threatening my friend."

The bald man laughed, a harsh, ugly sound. "Your friend? What are you, his babysitter? Get lost, lizard, before I decide to make you my next pair of boots."

Dragskarr's patience snapped. With a roar, he lunged at the bald man, his massive fists swinging. The other men scrambled to join the fight, but Dragskarr was a whirlwind of fury, his fists and tail lashing out with deadly precision. The halfling, not one to be left out, darted in and out of the fray, landing quick, precise blows that left his opponents gasping in pain.

In the end, the bar was in shambles, and Dragskarr and the halfling stood victorious amidst a groaning pile of bodies. The bartender, who had wisely stayed out of the fight, approached them with a grudging respect.

"Damn, you two really know how to make a mess," he said, shaking his head. "But I gotta admit, that was one hell of a show."

Dragskarr grinned, his teeth bared in a feral smile. "Just taking out the trash."

The halfling chuckled and clapped Dragskarr on the arm. "Thanks for the assist, big guy. Name's Razzle."

Dragskarr nodded. "Drags ...Kent. Anytime, Razzle."

As they left the bar, Dragskarr couldn't help but feel satisfied. He had done a good thing, helped someone who needed it. It wasn't much, but it was a start. And who knew? Maybe he would find more opportunities to make a difference in this city.

As he looked out at Freeport's sprawling metropolis, he felt a glimmer of hope for the first time in a long while.

Illastria and Moppet sat at the bar, the small doll perched on a stool next to her. The bartender, a thin, reedy man with a nervous twitch, approached them with a forced smile.

"What'll it be, ladies?" he asked, his eyes flicking nervously between Illia and the doll.

Illia smiled sweetly, her voice high and innocent. "I'll have a Shirley Terror, please. And my little puppy here would like a bowl of water."

The bartender raised an eyebrow, nodded, and quickly prepared their drinks. As he set them down, Illia leaned in close. "So, we're here on vacation, but we heard there's supposed to be some kind of big meeting happening soon. Do you know anything about that?"

The bartender's eyes darted around the room, as if checking for eavesdroppers. "I, uh, I'm not sure what you're talking about," he stammered.

Illia pouted, her bottom lip jutting out. "Oh, come on. We're just curious. It's not every day you get to be in a place where something exciting is happening."

The bartender hesitated, then leaned in closer. "Alright, but you didn't hear it from me. There's supposed to be a meeting between the Crimson Blades and the Ashen Order. They're discussing some kind of... business deal."

Illia's eyes widened in feigned surprise. "Wow, that does sound exciting. Do you know when it's happening?"

The bartender shook his head. "No, but it's supposed to be soon. And I'd stay out of it if I were you. Those are not people you want to cross."

Illia nodded, her expression serious. "Thank you for the warning. We'll be careful."

As the bartender moved away to serve other customers, Illastria turned to Moppet, her voice low. "Did you hear that, Puppy? We need to let the others know."

She picked up the doll and headed to the restroom, where she pulled out a small, enchanted mirror. Holding it up, she whispered, "Lyra, can you hear me?"

A moment later, Lyrramari's voice came through the mirror. "I hear you, Illia. What's up?"

"We found out about the meeting," Illia said. "It's between the Crimson Blades and the Ashen Order. They're discussing some kind of business deal."

Lyrra's voice was sharp. "Do we know when or where?"

Illia shook her head. "Not yet. But we'll keep digging. In the meantime, be ready for anything."

"Understood," Lyrra said. "Stay safe."

As Illia put away the mirror, she couldn't help but feel excited. This was what they had been training for, the reason they had come to Freeport. And now, it seemed, things were finally starting to happen. She looked down at Moppet and smiled. "Come on, Puppy. We've got work to do."
