The Betrayal, Chapter 3

The spa was one of Freeport's finest exclusive resorts, named Jade Serenity. The name nodded to the ancient Far Eastern designs that inspired its architecture. The building was a masterpiece of intricate carvings and ornate decorations, with a large central courtyard that housed a tranquil pond filled with colorful fish. The air was thick with the scent of exotic flowers and incense, and the soft sound of water trickling from fountains added to the peaceful ambiance. The reception area was spacious, with a high ceiling and polished marble floors. Silk tapestries depicting scenes of nature and serenity adorned the walls, and the furniture was crafted from the finest woods, each piece a work of art in its own right.

The concierge stood at the front desk. The wooden counter shone under the soft light of the flickering candles. He wore a sharp black uniform with gold accents, and his hair was slicked back in a neat, professional style. He smiled as one of the rumored wealthy customers entered the lobby.

The ratonga's black fur stood in stark contrast to his crisp, white suit and round, wide-brimmed tropical hat. The concierge blinked at the sight; a taller human female in a low-cut dress accompanied him, her large, firm breasts swaying under the sparse fabric as she carried two large suitcases through the front doors, along with travel bags filled with wrapped bags of white powder.

"Goods mornings," the black-furred ratonga sneered at the man at the desk, "I's Ratty Ratonga, I's a drug dealers. This heres is my wifes Taala. She's a nos goods wife, but mes loves hers."

The concierge nodded, a plastic smile on his face. "Welcome, Mr. Ratonga. We've been expecting you."

Two Tier'dal elves near the doors whispered, one saying, "Use your mind powers to make them believe Blaque is a powerful drug dealer."

"Is its so?" Ratty's voice was barely more than a squeak. "I's was told I's needs to be here for a meetings. Is this a goods places to make deals? Me's is confused."

The concierge nodded again. "Yes, this is the perfect place to conduct your business. We have many private rooms available for your use."

Ratty grinned, showing off his sharp teeth. "That's goods to hears. I's has a lot of goods to sells. Much drugs to gets all mes customers highs."

Taala leaned in, her voice low and sultry. "We have the finest quality. The best stuff in all of Norrath. And I do love my husband; we have torrid sex, you know."

The concierge nodded. "Of course, we would expect nothing less from someone of your reputation, Mr. Ratonga, and, ahem, Miss Ratonga. We have prepared a suite for you. Please, follow me." He motioned for them to follow, and Ratty and Taala trailed behind him, their suitcases clattering on the marble floor. The concierge led them to a private elevator, and they ascended to the top floor. The suite was spacious, with a large bed, a sitting area, and a balcony that overlooked the city. Taala set down the suitcases and began to unpack, while Ratty explored the room, his nose twitching as he took in the luxurious surroundings.

"This is a nice places," he said, his eyes gleaming with greed. "Me's likes it."

The concierge smiled. "I'm glad to hear that, Mr. Ratonga. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. We are here to make your stay as comfortable as possible."

Ratty nodded. "I's will. But for now, I's needs to gets to works. I's has a lots of drugs to sells, and mes customers is waitings."

The concierge bowed and took his leave, closing the door behind him. Ratty and Taala set about their work, unpacking their suitcases and arranging the bags of white powder on the bed. The room soon filled with the scent of the drugs, a pungent, sweet aroma that seemed to cling to the air. It smelled exactly like powdered sugar, which it was.

"Think they bought it?" Taala whispered, peering out the balcony window.

Ratty, otherwise known as the assassin Blaquetail, smiled. "Theys dos. Now we waits for the others to joins us."

Lyrramari, otherwise known as the Tier'dal performer The Singing Enchantress, proudly walked into the spa with her gaggle of Tier besties in tow. She was dressed in a revealing outfit that left little to the imagination, her curves on full display for all to see. The receptionist raised an eyebrow at the group, but Lyrramari simply smiled and handed over a small card with her name on it. The receptionist's eyes widened as she recognized the name, and he smiled as he greeted them.

"I am Lyrramari, otherwise known as the Singing Enchantress," Lyrra smiled, "one of the greatest performers in my generation. This is my Teir'girl pack, all influencers, mind you. This one here is Tali, my personal assistant; please do exactly as she says."

Talianimi smiled, dressed in a fashionable suit and wearing sunglasses. Tali smiled at the concierge.  "Lyrra is famous, and I am her personal assistant. Got that?"

Tali used her mental powers to plant that as the truth in the concierge's mind, earning a nod.

Tali pointed at a large, black-scaled Iskar standing next to them, wearing an ill-fitting suit, glasses, and a fedora. "This is Drags Kent, our personal journalist and writer for JournalBook, where all of us influencers write nice things about the things we do and earn more business from our fans. Understand?" Tali glared at the man.

The man nodded, obviously dazed from Tali's mental powers.

"This is Illia," Tali pointed at the final dark elf, "Lyrra's manager. She handles the money."

"Illia" was a confused Illastria, who simply smiled and nodded. She knew she wasn't supposed to speak unless it was an emergency, as her high voice might give them away. Illa pointed to her moppet doll, Moppet, who stood by her feet. "This is my dog, Puppy!"

The concierge looked confused, and Tali wrote into his mind that the doll was actually a dog. "I'll get you checked in immediately!" he beamed.

Dragskarr handed him a list of demands. "We require the penthouse suite, with a private spa, and a butler to attend to our every need. We also require a private chef to prepare our meals, and a masseuse to tend to our aching muscles. We've had a long journey, and we're in desperate need of pampering."

Tali pointed at Wildsong. "This is Wild, the backup singer for the Singing Enchantress, and her protege. She doesn't say much, but she's very talented."

The concierge nodded, scribbling notes on a pad. "Of course, of course. We'll make sure everything is ready for you. Welcome to the Jade Serenity Spa, ladies and gentlemen."

The group was led to their suite, a lavish space with plush furniture and a stunning view of the city below. Lyrramari flopped onto the bed, kicked off her shoes, and stretched out. "Ahh, this is more like it. I was getting tired of sleeping on the ground."

Dragskarr wandered over to the minibar and helped himself to a bottle of expensive wine. "I must say, this is quite the upgrade from our usual accommodations. I could get used to this."

Talianimi rolled her eyes and set their bags on the floor. "Don't get too comfortable. We're here on a mission, remember?"

Lyrramari waved her off. "Oh, relax, Tali. We deserve a little bit of luxury after all the hard work we've been doing. Besides, we need to blend in, right? What's more inconspicuous than a group of famous performers enjoying a spa day?"

Talianimi sighed, but couldn't argue with her logic. "Fine, but don't forget why we are here. Those two groups of pirates are arranging a meeting here, and they are going to discuss the transfer of the hellfire weapon we are looking for." She poked her head into the hallway and saw the resort butler approaching. She closed the door and turned towards the others. "Get into character; the butler is here."

The butler knocked, entered the room, and bowed low. "Welcome to Jade Serenity, esteemed guests. My name is Jeeves, and I will be attending to your every need during your stay."

Lyrramari sat up and batted her eyelashes at him. "Well, hello there, Jeeves. You're quite the looker, aren't you?"

Jeeves blushed, his cheeks turning pink. "Thank you, madam. I am at your service."

Talianimi stepped forward and handed him a list of requests. "We require a private spa session, as well as a masseuse and a chef. We also need a secure line of written communication, preferably something that can't be traced."

Jeeves took the list, his expression unreadable. "Of course, madam. I will see to it immediately. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"

"Illa's dog needs to be walked daily," she said, pointing at the Moppet, with Tali implanting the thought that, yes, the doll is actually a dog.

Jeeves nodded, jotting it down. "Very good, madam. I will make sure Puppy is taken care of."

As Jeeves left the room, Illastria picked up her doll and hugged it. "Puppy is happy. I knew he would be." She put the doll down, then played with it.

Dragskarr poured himself another glass of wine, eyeing the others. "So, what's the plan? Do we just wait for the pirates to show up and make their move?"

Lyrramari shook her head, her long hair cascading down her back. "No, we need to be proactive. We need to gather information, find out who's involved, and what their plans are. Then we can make our move."

Talianimi nodded. "Agreed. Illia, you and Drags should head to the bar and see what you can find out. Keep an ear out for any suspicious conversations."

Illastria nodded, grabbed Moppet, and headed for the door. "Come on, Drags. Let's go see what kind of trouble we can get into."

Dragskarr chuckled, following her out. "After you, my dear."

As they left, Talianimi turned to Lyrramari and Wildsong. "You two should head to the spa. See if you can overhear anything while you're getting pampered. I'll stay here and coordinate our efforts."

Lyrramari grinned, stood up, and stretched. "Sounds like a plan to me. Come on, Wild, let's go get our massage on. What are you going to do?"

Tali smiled. "I need to check in on Blaque and Taala, and see if they are in position on the other side of the hotel. Their mission is to track the group of pirates delivering the device. Our job is to find out where the other group of pirates is taking it."
